Relationship Counseling in Chicago

Individual Counseling & Dance Therapy, to help You build thriving relationships and to become more embodied.

You feel disconnected in your relationships

You long to feel close to others, but fully trusting someone and opening up can feel incredibly difficult. While you may put on a good front, inside you often feel alone, anxious, and sometimes scared.

The irritation and exhaustion from constantly proving yourself in relationships, at work, or to the world are all too familiar. You think you “should work harder, do more, or know better.” When you feel like this, you become distracted, making it hard to be fully present in your life and your relationships.

All the perfectionism and overwhelm keep you in your head, totally disconnected from your body. It takes pain or illness to get you to care for your body, otherwise, you don't notice how you feel.

Sometimes you 'know' something in your head but not in your heart. It's hard to really feel and know what you need. You want to find someone who can help you bridge this gap so you can communicate better and feel closer in your relationships.

Relationship Counseling for More Connection with Yourself and Others

Lisaura Lozada-Goode, a relationship therapist and dance therapist in Chicago offers relationship counseling, dance therapy, and couples workshops.

My name is Lisaura, a licensed clinical counselor, relationship therapist, and dance therapist who helps adults like you find the connection between your head, heart, and body so you can be truly present in your relationships.

I am here to help you move from painful relationship cycles to more secure ones, whether that be with yourself or with others.

Together, we will explore your unique dance of connection, listening to your body and non-verbal cues to become receptive to the emotional experiences of your partner or other relationships.

Experience a Fuller Connection to Yourself and Your Relationships through an Embodied Approach to Counseling

Through individual relationship counseling and dance therapy I help you gain a deeper connection with yourself and others. Together we will move beyond talking about the last fight you had, your insecurity at work, or the anxiety you've been wearing all day and use movement to get you to break patterns of relating that have kept you emotionally isolated and in pain.

Many of my clients say that because of their work with me, they:

  • Pause and are less reactive when triggered

  • Listen to body cues and recognize their needs

  • Don’t push through when feeling exhausted

  • Allow themselves to rest

  • Understand what’s underneath behaviors and have more compassion for themselves and others

  • Have better communication

  • Have more forgiveness and space to process emotions

  • Don’t dismiss their first “inkling” anymore

  • Feel more confident setting boundaries

  • Second guess themselves less

In our work together, you will discover how simple movements can offer valuable insights into your feelings and how slowing down to listen to your body makes it easier to process your emotions, experiences, and stories.

Because I care about all of you, my approach is holistic and honoring of your faith and spirituality. I offer faith-based counseling for those who want to align their relationships with their spiritual beliefs. Bilingual therapy services are available as well.

Relationship Counseling in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions

  • Many individuals choose to pursue relationship counseling on their own. This journey can be incredibly empowering, helping you gain greater self-awareness, connect with your body, understand what you truly want in your relationships, and develop healthier ways to engage with others.

If you're in a romantic relationship and your partner isn’t ready or willing to attend therapy, individual counseling can still be highly beneficial. Through individual counseling, I can help you navigate feelings of overwhelm or distress in your relationship and become more attuned to your emotions and needs, so you can share them with your partner more confidently.

  • If you often feel anxious in your relationships, find yourself in frequent conflicts, or struggle with feelings of low self-worth or isolation, individual relationship counseling could be just what you need. It's completely okay to seek support when facing challenges—everyone deserves help in creating the fulfilling relationships they want. I’m here to help!

  • Individual counseling can help you gain valuable insights into your relationship patterns, enhance communication skills, and foster greater self and body awareness. By understanding yourself better, you can approach your relationships with more confidence, compassion, and understanding, leading to healthier and more fulfilling connections.

  • Absolutely. Individual counseling provides a supportive environment where you can explore the root causes of the loneliness you are experiencing. Together, we can develop strategies to help you connect more deeply with others and build meaningful relationships, whether they are friendships or romantic partnerships.

  • My individual counseling sessions last 60 minutes. During our first meeting, we’ll review your completed registration forms, discuss guidelines, and go over your personal history and reasons for seeking counseling. We’ll also collaborate on setting therapy goals, which we’ll regularly revisit to track your progress.

In each session, you’ll have the space to talk about what you’re struggling with in your relationships. Together, we’ll discuss the underlying influences, including past and current experiences, that may be contributing to feelings of anxiety or holding you back. We’ll also begin to develop new, healthier ways of relating.

  • The duration of individual counseling can vary quite a bit from person to person. Generally, clients work with me for anywhere between 6 months and 2 years, depending on your individual goals and how you progress.

We’ll regularly review your goals together and make any necessary adjustments along the way. My goal is to empower you to achieve your objectives, not to keep you in therapy longer than necessary, so you can feel confident and supported as you move forward.
