Counseling To Help Strengthen Your Relationship with Yourself and Others
You’re Tired of Feeling Lonely - Can Counseling Help?
You woke up feeling anxious, with that familiar tightness in your chest again. It’s starting to become the norm. Your life is so busy that there’s no time to think about yourself or what you need. You push through, climbing out of bed, already focused on work, ignoring the signals your body is sending.
Throughout the day, you just feel sad. It sneaks up on you. It comes up in those moments of quiet, driving to work, or being alone in your office. It doesn’t make sense. You’ve done everything right, worked so hard, and on the surface, things look successful.
But inside, you just feel so lonely. It’s tiring, and you’re noticing how it’s affecting your relationships. You’re short with people you care about, and keeping up with friendships takes so much effort.
Sometimes, you miss your old partner, even though you know it wasn’t the right relationship. And while you long for connection, whenever you meet someone new, it’s like you can’t let yourself be fully seen. You hold back, feeling guarded, unable to trust or open up easily.
The fear of being left lingers in every relationship. You worry that others won’t prioritize you or that you’ll somehow be forgotten.
You find yourself replaying conversations in your head, second-guessing everything you say. You feel tension in your chest as you try to reach out and put yourself out there. You are so hard on yourself. You criticize what you say, do, and even how you look. It feels like you don’t know how to be someone others will want to be with.
But how can you connect with others when it feels like you’ve lost your connection with yourself?
Relationship Counseling for One
You want to feel connected in your relationships, but right now, you don’t even feel comfortable in your own skin.
You need someone to help you break free from being so hard on yourself and gently guide you through the fear and discomfort of opening up. Someone who can support you through the tough and draining emotions you feel and can’t seem to fully understand.
My name is Lisaura, and as a relationship therapist who offers individual counseling, I help adults move from disconnection towards deeper, more meaningful relationships—with themselves and others. I'm here to support you in finding your way back to who you truly are, so you can confidently share it with others.
Nurture Healthier Relationships with Individual Counseling
With compassion and curiosity, we’ll work together in our counseling sessions to uncover the patterns that surface when you feel too close or too distant in your relationships. We’ll gently explore what’s behind these reactions, helping you gain deeper insight into what’s really going on.
Through individual counseling, we’ll create a safe environment where you can practice listening to yourself and reconnecting with your body’s cues that signal boundaries, limits, and needs. We’ll also work together to help you feel more grounded and calm in moments of anxiety or shutdown.
As we discover what’s holding you back from intimacy in your relationships, you’ll regain trust in yourself and learn to connect with others from a place of love instead of fear.
How Mind-Body Awareness in Individual Counseling Can Foster Deeper Connections
In our counseling sessions, I’ll gently encourage you to slow down and tune into what’s happening in your body as you talk. Taking a moment to notice and describe your physical sensations can be a powerful way to understand your emotions more deeply. It can also help you gain clarity about what you need and how to express it in a way that feels true to you.
There are times when it can be hard to fully describe what you’re feeling, and that’s completely normal in counseling. When words aren’t enough, I might introduce symbolic movement as another way to help you connect with and express your emotions.
We can also practice gentle movement exercises to help you feel more grounded, stable, or even more open. These movements can offer relief when emotions feel overwhelming, giving you a new way to navigate and process your experience.
Getting a Clearer Picture of Your Relationship Style through Individual Counseling in Chicago
Through individual counseling, you’ll be invited to consider what you learned about relationships and emotions growing up. This will give us a clearer picture of the relational patterns you might still engage in today, even though they may no longer serve you.
By recognizing and working through old beliefs and narratives that no longer fit, we can begin to create the secure, deep connections you’ve been longing for.

My individual counseling sessions last 60 minutes. During our first meeting, we’ll review your completed registration forms, discuss guidelines, and go over your personal history and reasons for seeking counseling. We’ll also collaborate on setting therapy goals, which we’ll regularly revisit to track your progress.
In each session, you’ll have the space to talk about what you’re struggling with in your relationships. Together, we’ll discuss the underlying influences, including past and current experiences, that may be contributing to feelings of anxiety or holding you back. We’ll also begin to develop new, healthier ways of relating.

The duration of individual counseling can vary quite a bit from person to person. Generally, clients work with me for anywhere between 6 months and 2 years, depending on your individual goals and how you progress.
We’ll regularly review your goals together and make any necessary adjustments along the way. My goal is to empower you to achieve your objectives, not to keep you in therapy longer than necessary, so you can feel confident and supported as you move forward.
